Sun Facts

Sun Facts :

1. The Sun is a star that is in the center of the Solar System

2. The Sun is recognized as having the largest mass in our Solar System.

... 3. The diameter of the Sun is 1.4 million km (870,000 miles)

4. The Sun’s distance from the Earth is 150 million km (93 million miles)

5. Earth orbits the Sun 365 days, yes, one year.

6. The Sun rotates every 25-36 earth days.

7. The Sun’s energy travels outwards.

8. The Sun’s core is composed of hot & dense gasses. It has a temperature of 15 million Kelvin (27 million degrees F)

9. The Sun is made up of 92% hydrogen, 7% helium and the remainder of various gasses.

10. The atmosphere of the Sun is composed of three areas: the photosphere, chromosphere, and solar corona.

11. The corona is the Sun’s outer atmosphere with temperatures that can go from a few thousand kelvins to a few
million kelvins.

12. Helmet streamers are big white regions that extend out from the Sun in which solar plasma are trapped by the magnetic field of the Sun.

13. Solar flares from the Sun are sudden bursts of brightness that happen in places near the sunspots.

14. Sunspots appear on the surface of the Sun and look dark because of the lower temperatures near it.

15. The internal structure of the Sun is composed of: the inner core, radiative, core, and the radiative core.

16. The inner core is the hottest part of the Sun, and can reach 27 billion F.

17. A solar eclipse occurs when Earth passes the shadow of the Moon.

18. A total solar eclipse occurs only during a new moon, which is when the moon sits directly between the Earth and the Sun.

19. Radiations of the Sun are in two forms, electromagnetic (photons) and particle (electrons, protons, alpha particles, etc.) radiation.

20. In February 1974, Skylab was the first manned spacecraft to study the Sun.

21. Solar flares occur when magnetic fields of the Sun come together and cause huge explosions on the Sun’s surface.

22. Solar flares produce bursts of electromagnetic radiation, x-rays, ultraviolet radiation, visible light, and radio waves.

23. Johann Rudolf Wolf, in 1848 developed a method to count sunspots which has been called Wolf number.

24. Most ancient civilizations have based their culture on the presence of the Sun. These include the myths as developed by the following people: Egyptians (Re or Ra), Aztecs (Tonatiuh and Huitzilopochtli), Greek (Helios), Inca (Inti), and the list goes on.

25. If you weigh 100 lbs, your weight on the Sun would be 2707 lbs. (multiply your actual weight by 27)

Saturn

Saturn

Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second largest planet in the Solar System, after Jupiter. Named after the Roman god Saturn, its astronomical symbol represents the god's sickle.

Rings : Rings are 270,000 km in diameter, but only a few hundred meters thick. Particles are centimeters to decameters in size and are ice (some may be covered with ice); there are traces of silicate and carbon minerals. There are four main ring groups and three more faint, narrow ring groups separated by gaps called divisions.

Elephantiasis: grossly enlarged members

Elephantiasis: grossly enlarged members

Lymphatic filariasis, also known as elephantiasis, is best known from dramatic photos of people with grossly enlarged or swollen arms and legs. The disease is caused by parasitic worms, including Wuc...hereria bancrofti, Brugia malayi, and B. timori, all transmitted by mosquitoes. Lymphatic filariasis currently affects 120 million people worldwide, and 40 million of these people are seriously diseased. When an infected female mosquito bites a person, she may inject the worm larvae, called microfilariae, into the blood. The microfilariae reproduce and spread throughout the bloodstream, where they can live for many years. Often disease symptoms do not appear until years after infection. As the parasites accumulate in the blood vessels, they can restrict circulation and cause fluid to build up in surrounding tissues. The most common, visible signs of infection are excessively enlarged arms, legs, genitalia, and breasts.

Planet Uranus Facts

1. Uranus is named after the Greek god of the sky. Uranus was the husband of Gaia, the goddess of the Earth.

2. The orbital speed of Uranus is 6.6 km/sec

... 3. A year on Uranus is equal to 84.01 Earth Years

4. Uranus is the third largest planet in the Solar System.

5. The atmosphere of Uranus is composed of hydrogen, helium, and methane. The methane in the atmosphere absorbs red light, giving the planet a blue-green color.

6. Uranus is considered unusual because the planet is tipped on its side. The poles actually point towards the Sun. This is due to the fact that its magnetic field is tilted 60 degrees from the axis of rotation.

7. Voyager 2 is the only spacecraft to have visited Uranus.

8. Like Venus, Uranus spins from east to west, which is opposite from the spin of Earth.

9. A day on Uranus is equal to a little more than 17 hours on Earth.

10. Uranus maximum distance from the Sun is 3 billion km (1.88) billion miles

11. Uranus minimum distance from the Earth is 2.6 billion km (1.6 billion miles)

12. Diameter of Uranus is 51,488 km (32,000 miles)

13. The 27 moons of Uranus are named after characters created by William Shakespeare and Alexander Pope.

14. William Herschel identified Titania and Oberon in 1787, these are the first two moons of Uranus that were discovered.

15. Uranus has 13 unique rings. They are named using Greek symbols and other numerical values: 1986U2R/ζ, 6, 5, 4, α, β, η, γ, δ, λ, ε, ν, μ

16. If you weigh 100 lbs, your weight on Uranus would be 89 lbs. (multiply your actual weight by 0.89)

Why Education Loans are better than Credit Cards

You need some more cash for university expenses this semester. Do you whip out a MasterCard or any other types of credit cards to purchase your books, or do you apply for a federal or non-public/ private loan? Well, think about the choices -

With a federal loan, your interest rate is low (around 5%) and your payments are deferred till six to nine months after graduation.
With a non-public/ private loan, the interest rate is slightly beyond with a federal loan however can still be less than average. Additionally, you may solely have to be compelled to build interest payments till once graduation.

With a credit card, on the opposite hand, the interest rate will be as high as 21%. Interest begins accruing presently, and you would like to start paying off the bill consequent month.

This is to not say that credit cards don't have an area in your student life. It’s smart to own one national card (Visa, Discover, MasterCard) on hand to assist you build a positive credit history and to supply security in emergencies. After you plan to apply for a card, compare yearly fees, interest rates, and introductory offers. And to stay yourself out of debt, try to do:

# Pay your balance every month to avoid your interest charges/ fees.

# Pay your bill on time to avoid late charges/ fees.

# Avoid money advances, that accompany giant finance charges and interest that begins accruing immediately.
